Ceremonial takeover of electric buses in the City municipality of Kranj

Today, May 15th 2023, the City Municipality Kranj organised a ceremonial takeover of four electric buses MAN Lion’s City E.

After about three years of planning and preparation and cooperation with many experts, the City Municipality of Kranj ceremonially took over four of the eight planned electric, twelve meter long, MAN Lion’s City E buses.

The ceremony took place at the ARRIVA Slovenia premises in Kranj. The event started at 11.30 and lasted for about and hour and a half.

The key note speakers were Matjaž Rakovec, Mayor of the City Municipality of Kranj, Bo Karlsson, director of Arriva, Ltd and Matjaž Han, Minister of Economy, Tourism and Sports.

“The municipality of Kranj is one of the leading Slovenian municipalities that is intensively working towards a transition to more environmentally friendly mobility. The four electric buses will be an acquisition that will significantly contribute to the decarbonisation of public passenger transport. This will also be an important step in the pursuit of climate neutrality, to which Kranj has committed itself as one of the selected cities in the European Commission project – the mission of 100 climate neutral and smart cities by 2030,” stated at the city municipality of Kranj.

The ceremony was also the opportunity to take the first ride in the newly acquired MAN electric buses.

The city municipality of Kranj has in total 16 city buses and this is, beside previously setting the necessary charging infrastructure, a first big step toward the electrification of the bus fleet in the City municipality of Kranj.
