The municipality of Fuchstal, a partner of the Store More project, hosted a meeting of partners on October 15 and 16, 2024 and organized study visits to the renewable source energy production infrastructure.

The Fuchstal municipality is situated about 78km West from München and has about 4000 inhabitants (AdminStat Germania, 2022). In the last ten years or so, the municipality has been investing in the infrastructure for the production of electricity from the renewable energy sources (RES) in order to achieve energy independance and self-sufficiency. The energy is produced from wind, solar sources and biomass.

On the hills near the village they have set up six windmills in 2016, with each windmill having the nominal power of 3000kW (3MW). The windmills are in total 207m high, the rotor diameter is 115m. Since the windmills are set up in the forest they have installed a special monitoring and safety system for birds in order to prevent bird collision with the windmills. If the system detects a bird flying toward the windmill rotor, the windmill rotation stops. From the start of the operation up to now they haven’t counted any bird casualties. The windmills are connected to the village energy storage system with underground cables.

The storage system is a combination of lithium-ion batteries (5.8MW) and watter silo to store hot water.

In 2023, the Municipality finished with photovoltaic plant instalation on 14hectars of land, providing two million kWh of RES energy per year.

Biogas plant produces six million kWh of CO2-newtral  energy annually.

Annually, the municipality uses about 3M kWh of electricity, the surplus is sold in the energy market, the income goes to the municipality and other investors which are the residents of the Fuchstal municipality.

In order to use any available source of energy, also for heating purposes, the energy is also harvested from cooling the milk, from a 150 heads of cattle.
