Kobarid, 25-26 October 2023 – Together with our partners, we marked the first year of the ADRIONCYCLETOUR – Adriatic-Ionian Cycle Route for Sustainable Tourism project, one of the three strategic projects of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 Programme, which faces the challenge of increasing the attractiveness and accessibility of the programme area through the promotion of sustainable tourism linked to cycling.
After the first year of the project and just before the first reporting, we reviewed the status of the project activities with the partners. While the infrastructure investments of the two Italian partners and the Municipality of Kobarid are in the planning and permitting phase, activities to improve the offer of services supporting sustainable mobility have already been implemented during the summer season. For example, the intermodal services of transport bike + boat and bike + bus was offered again on the Slovenian Coast. The boat, which also provided bicycle transport, ran 6 days a week in July and August. Interest was really high, with more than 11,000 passengers carried. There was some less interest in the bus linking the Coast Area with the Karst, but both services will be offered next season. In the Posočje region, two services were offered, the Tolmin – Kobarid – Čedad and the Tolmin via Trbiž to Kranjska Gora. There was more interest in the connection to Kranjska Gora. We published a summer timetable booklet, Cycling the Bohinj railway, for which Slovenian Railways provided additional capacity for bicycle transport.
Reminder: in Gorenjska region the focus is on designing, planning and offering a range of services for cyclists and promoting sustainable mobility. We will open two new bike rest areas near attractions on the new Bled-Bohinj cycle path, we will also install two bike counters, and we are planning to provide equipment for the safe storage and charging of electric bicycles in Kranjska Gora. Investment in equipment is planned for next year. Meetings with various stakeholders and providers are also planned for the winter and before the new cycling season.
ADRIONCYCLETOUR is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 programme.
